My furniture is inspired by the timeless compositions found in Prairie School stained glass windows. Prairie School architecture was popularized in the mid-west in the early 20th century, and I enjoy how they could make such intricate designs made out of simple shapes. These stained glass designs have a unique way of breaking up a space and introducing interesting eye movement for the viewer. I've worked to combine these beloved design concepts and use them to make 3 dimensional artwork that is functional. My goal is to produce timeless, innovative, handcrafted artwork.
I had first gained interest in furniture making when I was a kid and my grandpa would build custom furniture for loved ones, in his basement shop. He always enjoyed woodworking and making crafts in his free time and I inherited that appreciation for the hand made crafts. After college, I was hired working for a custom woodwork and cabinetry company in the architectural millwork field. It was there I learned about designing and building cabinetry and custom woodwork. I learned all about architectural woodworking standards, as determined by the Architectural Woodworking Institute. Designing and building my own furniture in my basement studio, was where I needed to be. I've enjoyed being a member of the Minnesota Woodworkers Guild, and have learned a great deal from the community there.
When not making furniture and artwork, I can be found making the most of the outdoor activities in Minnesota. I make my best effort to enjoy our long winters spending time teaching skiing lessons at a local ski hill, playing beer league hockey, or ice skating on one of the ponds nearby. Other seasons give me a great opportunity to get out on our many lakes, ride bicycles on the trails, or go on an adventure traveling the world with friends and family.
